Would be emigrants looking to head to sunnier climes of Spain should head the Costa del Sol if they are golf enthusiasts after two of the region’s courses were voted the best in the country.

The Golfers’ Choice list of the Iberian country’s top 50 courses ranked Sotogrande’s Real Club Valderrama in first place and Casares’s Finca Cortesin in second, meaning that the pair retained their place at the top of the pile for the second consecutive year.

The rankings are compiled by golfing website Leading Courses, with scores being based on players’ overall experiences. Valderrama improved on last year’s score of 9.3 out of ten, rising to 9.4 this time out, while Finca Cortesin maintained its score of 9.1 from last time out. Tied in third place, on 8.9 points each, were Alcanda on the Balearic island of Majorca and La Galiana in Valencia.

Many retiring Brits look towards the Costa del Sol as the ideal place to relocate to because of its year-round warm temperatures and its proximity to the UK. With golf among pensioners’ favourite pastime, there seems no reason to look any further than Spain’s sunny southern golfing haven.
